How These 5 Photo Editing Apps Can Enhance Your Social Media Marketing Visuals

5 photo editing apps

Are you using pictures to spread your messages throughout social media?

Are you unsure how to get your pictures to stand out in the crowd?

I have outlined 5 photo editing apps that will enhance your social media marketing efforts.

Since the era of Egyptian Hieroglyphics, man-kind has used a mix of words and pictures as a way to communicate. Today, savvy marketers seem to be using fewer words than the Egyptians. There has been a shift from using words to using pure visuals to get a brand’s messaging heard. It’s no secret that people are attracted to online content containing quality images and photos. Social Media posts with visuals get 94% more total views on average than those without images.

In recent years, visual platforms like Pinterestwith its 40 million users and Instagram which has 200 million active users per month have taken over the social media landscape. Social media marketers have awaken to the fact that people are drawn to images over words. Using visuals in your social media marketing will help you build relationships among your followers by tapping into their emotions. The art of compelling your leads and prospects to react to your messages can be tough. This is because social media marketing is saturated with so many different messages. An effective digital and content marketing strategy will get  your message heard loud and clear.

Here are 5 Android and ios photo editing apps that will help you get the job done right.

1. Canva – If you shriek at the thought of using a complicated design software like Photoshop, you will love Canva. This platform is a one stop design source for beginners and beyond. It allows you to create beautiful posters, invitations, cards, website graphics, or even multiple-page presentations. You can also edit your own pictures within the platform. What’s even better is that it’s free. To get started you can choose one of the many templates available to you or start with a blank canvas. Canva recently added a design school to its offering. This is where you can learn the tools and techniques necessary to make and edit the perfect photos.

2. VSCO (pronounced Visco) Cam -VSCO stands for Visual Supply Company. Touted as the new Instagram for photographers, this app provides all sorts of options for creating filters, saturating images, adjusting the temperatures and applying shadows and film grain. “The concept that a good photo is one that has lots of textures or colors is something that we wanted to dispel,” says VSCO co-founder Greg Lutze. What’s also nice about the app is the ease in which it allows users to share pics across social media. This can be done directly from the platform

3. Snapseed Mobile – Founded in 2011, the company sets out to make any photo extraordinary. This app is especially for photo editors  who want a burst of color in their pictures. You can boost color, enhance your contrast and adjust the brightness of specific aspects of an image. My favorite thing about this app is the ease in which you can enhance your photos with one tap using the Auto Correct feature.

4. Adobe Photoshop Express – This free app is for beginning designers who want to enhance their photos on the go. The app’s features include quick fixing of photos, the ability to straighten and crop, and an option to add borders and frames. The app has recently added features like blemish removal, defog to remove fog and haze, and you can now import RAW photos and there’s the ability for users to control the intensity of looks. You can also do quick sharing on social media platforms and enhance photos right from within the app.

5. FaceTune – Launched in 2013, this app caters to one goal and that’s to make sure that your selfies and portraits are gorgeous. This app includes tools for whitening stained teeth, red-eye adjustment, colorizing graying hair, and pimple and blemish removal. You can also adjust filters and add lighting. One of the things that I love most about this app is the fact that you can re-shape distorted images and change facial expressions.

I really need to try Canva out. I’ve heard some great things about it. I learnt how to use photoshop at uni… 15 years ago! Been a while and I really lack the skills these days.

Canva is my absolute fav and go-to app! I took a peak at #5 “Facetune” – but you have to pay 3.99! Ouch! A little pricey for me with no trial! But I appreciate the share all the same.

    • Shantha Wetterhan on November 25, 2014 at 4:19 am

Yes, that one is pricey. I even like Pic Monkey which has the same features as FaceTune, but it’s free.

  13. Alex B. on November 25, 2014 at 1:22 pm

I will give Canva a closer look. So far I’ve been using PicMonkey for the work I needed to do. Most mobile apps are unfortunately not working for windows phone, so that’s that. Going to test the Adobe one now.

    • Shantha Wetterhan on November 25, 2014 at 2:10 pm

Yes, you’re right about the Windows phone incompatibilities. I love Picmonkey it pretty much does all that I need it to do. But, for some extra embellishments and pretty graphic words, Canva is the way to go. I think you’ll love it.

  14. Joely Smith on November 25, 2014 at 8:43 pm
